PowerCem Southern Africa was approached by Lekhozi Consulting Engineers to propose an alternative design to stabilize 1695m x 6.5 m for the Ngcwala Rural District in the Eastern Cape Province. The road was designed to carry light to medium traffic with some heavy traffic. The material to be stabilized was classified as a G 5 Sabunga Type with a layer thickness of 200 mm. PCSA supplied their product RoadCem for stabilization purposes together with Afrisam OPC 32.5.
The contractor appointed to complete this project was Robert Bros. Construction (Mpumalanga Construction).
The stabilization process was completed in six working days which was constantly threatened by inclement weather. Standard soil/cement stabilization was implemented utilizing a Motor Grader, Pad Foot Compactor, Smooth Drum Compactor, Agricultural plough modified for road construction and two Water Bowsers. The proposed seal for this project is a Cape Seal but final verification is still awaited.
